Why do we charge a booking fee?
We charge a booking fee for a number of reasons. It's a contract between yourselves and us, providing commitment from both sides. We spend time dealing with licensing, organising staff, stock and transport to your venue and back again. We meet you to discuss all the detail of your event in person so that we can ensure everything runs smoothly before the day, on the day and after the day. We put time into selecting and then keeping the best quality drinks available to us from some of the best brewers in the country. An average wedding can take between 3-5 days of our time to do it properly ensuring you have piece of mind and we worry about every detail from positioning on the site to the organisation behind the bar.
Rest assured knowing we have a plan in place should the we encounter a problem!
Being mobile presents it's own set of unique challenges. What if we breakdown, get a puncture, get stuck in traffic? We are fully insured for our and your protection. But that won't help you on the day so we have several plans in place to make sure we do everything humanly possible to be where we say we will be, when we say we will be! We always aim to arrive at least 3 hours before the bar is due to open. It takes about one and a half to two hours to setup with 15mins for the staff to have a breather before they start to serve. The extra hour is a fail safe for us. It costs us more but we like the element of stress removed for all concerned. We operate multiple bars - this allows us options if a trailer or van breaks beyond repair and we can't get to you. We can immediately put another bar on the road fully stocked with the resources held in stock at HQ.
So being flexible and running several different bars offers security in the knowledge that there is a team and resources behind us to help overcome the unthinkable.
So why 'Gather'?
We thought we had better clear this up. Most of you will have come across myself (Matt) Kate, Leon, Alex, other Matt, and a whole host of other staff, friends and helpers and know us as 'The Duck & Pheasant' or 'The Coot & Moorhen' and more recently 'The Wren & Wagtail' or 'The BirdHouse'. Our business started back in 2014 with the 'Duck' and through the last few years the 'Duck' has been the main stay and driven the business forward. Being as recognised and remembered has been great, but this has been as much a success as it has a hinderance. The 'Duck' has been the focus so much so that the 'Coot' is often missed. Prospective clients are unaware of our ability with the 'Wren' to provide the same traditional style in the local village hall or a beautiful barn with a door too low for the Horse Boxes. Our expertise in traditional signwriting, bar builds and setups and our connections to small brewers are being called upon quietly in the background while not having the exposure they deserve.
We have grown and things were in danger of becoming muddled hence the need for something like 'Gather'. Having a back log of projects, ideas and avenues to pursue needs a focused and streamlined approach. Here at 'Gather' we have hopefully show cased our bars and will gradually introduce you to our services. We hope over time that the loyal following we have found with the 'Duck' will come to follow us at 'Gather'.
You will still be able to follow the journey of the 'Duck, Coot, Wren and Birdhouse' on their respective websites, social media and press, but you'll be able to find us here and on the 'Gather' social media, all in one place!
Hopefully that cleared up any confusion, only last night at a client meeting was it mentioned by the wedding planner that they had spotted 'Gather' on instagram, worked out it was us and weren't sure how it fitted in - so now you know. We have tried to make things simpler, tidier and clearer to all of you out there browsing.
